Think Little CSA

(In the spring of 2013 just as we were beginning our full time farming adventure the Rolett family-Jordan, Jackson and now baby Avery-began helping us here on the farm. They just recently started their own CSA and look forward to expanding in the future.  Having the Rolett family here on our farm allows us to "do life" with others while mentoring and helping beginning farmers.  One of the reasons we began farming full time is because we wanted to "practice what we preach" and be a witness to the importance of full time farmers growing small-scale food.)

Think Little CSA is an extension of the time we spend at [Hickory Lane Farm] learning not only how to grow good food, but how to do good through farming as well (or, how to grow community, I guess).  All of this is to say that when we--both the Rolett's and the Howell's--are not hard at work on the farm, we are hard at work off/for the farm.

Not only have the Howell's found a way to support aspiring small-scale farmers and local food entrepreneurs, but have also gone the extra mile to incubate them as well. By taking only what is "enough" from the food system to support their family, they are able to give our family and others the time and space to grow as well. In part, that is what inspired the name we chose for our CSA. It implies: we must know when to say enough, live within our means, and lead by example. That said, Think Little CSA has the opportunity to become a year-round CSA! We are now one step closer to our goal of farming full-time as farming will now be our primary source of income and most of our time will be centered around farm life be it planting, harvesting, planning, celebrating, or advocating.

There will be 50 weeks of CSA boxes comprised of a variety of seasonal vegetables, fruits, herbs, and foraged items. Given the nature of this transition, we will also be purchasing items from local farmers that we consider seasonal staples, but will not have the opportunity to grow (sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, etc). The Think Little CSA is best for one to three people who want begin integrating seasonal produce into their diets while supporting a local farm family.

Twenty shares are available at the cost of $1,000 per share/year (or $20/week). We will be accepting payment for the full year, beginning in October and ending in September of next year, or quarterly via post-dated check. If you require other means of payment, please contact us through the information provided below. CSA pick-up will be at Community Farmers Market on Tuesdays between the hours of 2pm and 6pm.
