Hello!

The Nitty Gritty
$300 per CSA Share (May-October, Approximately 1/2 Bushel Per Week, Includes Add-On's like honey, bulk foods, and bulk produce for this year only)  Full price will be $650 in 2013, so we are offering a huge discount to three families this year!
That means you will get 24 weeks of fresh fruits and vegetables for only $12.50 a week.  Plus add-on's like honey, bulk foods, etc.
At least 4 Hours of Volunteer Work on the Farm, assisting us at our Heirloom TomatoFest, helping us advertise our CSA, and giving us feedback on ways to make our CSA program better in 2013, and most of all...having lots of fun!
Why are we doing this at such a reduced price?  We want to give this CSA thing a try for a year and work out the kinks before we offer it to a large number of people.  We could really use help advertising and getting the word out next year as well!

Thank you for your interest in our 2012 Working Member CSA.  Let me share with you how this came about.  A few years ago we started opening up our garden to a few friends and family members.  They would come on "picking day" and help us pick, gather and box things up for the market.  Since that time most of these "working members" have started their own gardens, moved away or even bought a farm!  We are so excited for each of them and would now like to re-visit this idea.  Our plans are to expand our farm in 2013 by offering 10+ CSA's and will hopefully have 50 CSA's in 2014.

Because we have come to this decision late in the season there are going to be some great benefits and also some areas of "grace" that we will need as we approach the growing season quickly.  Let me share those with you.

Growing
Lettuce, Cabbage, Broccoli, Carrots, Cauliflower, Strawberries, Spinach, Heirloom Tomatoes, Eggplant, Squash, Cucumber, Herbs, Cut Flowers, Table Grapes, Cherry Tomatoes, Roma Tomatoes, Green Beans, Zucchini, Gourmet Peppers, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Onions, Fall Squash, Pumpkins (and probably several other things I've forgotten!)

*Sweet Corn-we are still debating whether or not to grow Sweet Corn.  Because of the issues with GMO corn and cross pollination of seed we are wanting to as YOU the consumer how you feel about sweet corn and whether or not you would want this added to our growing list.

Additional Items (these will be an added price in 2013, but we would like to offer them to you this year and get feedback on how you liked them in your CSA box, how you used them etc)
Local Honey, Cut Flowers, Herbs, Bulk Food Items, Preserved Items
We are also blessed to receive excess fruits and vegetables from fellow farmers and will be more than happy to share these items with you.  We normally get these items when we are covered up on our farm and are unable to do the canning/freezing that is necessary.

Growing Methods
We are a farm that is moving towards the bio-dynamic methods of Agriculture.   This is a holistic approach to farming that can take a few years to achieve.  Most of our crops are grown with NO pesticide or chemicals at all.  Some of the harder crops to grow in Kentucky like Watermelon and Heirloom Tomatoes are grown with Integrated Pest Management.  What that means is that Nathan is able to use his research from past growing season and use the smallest amount in the least amount of sprayings.  He always uses safe spraying practices and does this early in the year before fruit set.  Most of his sprays are considered "organic".

Commitment
Let me start by saying that we will need some "grace" this year.  Because we are starting a little late with our planning/planting we may not have the crops organized in a way that the CSA boxes are "balanced".  What this means is that for this first year there may be one week when we have a lot of things ready and then not as much the next week.  We hope to get things on track as much as possible, but with this being our first year there may be some "kinks" to work out.
We are asking that working members work at least 4 hours per month on the farm.  When we get all three families signed up for the CSA we would like to invite you over for dinner and we can discuss details on how to make this work best for everyone.  ***Nathan's mother is very sick and there may be a time that we will need our working members to come "u-pick" their CSA box.
We will offer two pick up locations for you CSA Box:  Here on our farm or at Nathan's work at the WKU farm (whichever is closest for you).
We are asking that you help us promote and advertise our future CSA's.  We know that word of mouth advertising is the best and we would appreciate any photos of meals, ideas, etc. for getting the word out!
We are asking for feedback on the CSA.  What you liked, what you would change, what crops you want more of...etc.  This will help us prepare to make our CSA even better in the future.
We would also like your assistance at our TomatoFest which will be held on July 19th from 5-7 pm.  We had a great time last year and look forward to this year as well!

Cost
In 2013 our CSA's will cost $650 for just fruits & vegetables and $800 to include add-ons.  We are offering this to our 2012 Working Members for $300 under the agreement that this is an "experimental" year for us and that your family will be helping us on the farm.  We hope to continue the Working Member CSA in 2013, but it will be for an increased price.

Child Care
My mother provides child care for me on "picking days" and would be willing to assist you with this if needed.  Cost would be $10 per child (or $20 max per family).
